- What it is:
-
- Have you ever tried to make a copy of a disk, including all
- of the directories, but couldn't remember the correct
- slash-whatzits to put after xcopy so you could copy the disk to
- your ram drive, bunky, and you forgot that your ram drive already
- held 27 other files from some other project you just gave up on,
- and you have now managed to get your disk-to-be-copied maybe
- copied to your ram drive, but it's all mixed up with all that other
- stuff? You've tried diskcopy, but that's slow, and you've gotta
- change disks back and forth. Copy [drive 1:]\*.* [drive 2:] just
- doesn't cut it either! Well, SuprDupr was written just to solve
- this problem! SuprDupr is a disk copying utility that allows you to
- copy (duplicate) most any floppy disk from/to/or entirely within
- either your A: or your B: drive. Like the big-eared candidate from
- Texas said, "Problem Solved!"
-
- What's it do:
-
- If your source and destination drive are the same, SuprDupr
- creates a temporary directory on your C: drive and treats it as
- a virtual drive K:. (If you are already using a drive labeled K:
- when you register your copy of SuprDupr, I'll send you a recompiled
- version of the program changing the drive identifier to whatever
- letter you'd like, just let me know what you need.) SuprDupr asks
- you for the Source drive, and then all files and the directory
- structure are copied to drive K:. (Note: Sprdprns.com, the version
- of SuprDupr for use when a disk stacking or compacting utility
- is being used, and which is loaded with the INSTAL-W command,
- will ONLY copy from one drive to the other. In this way,
- the hard drive is not used or affected in any way. Copying from
- A: to B: or from B: to A: works the same, except that when you
- select the Source drive, the other drive is automatically selected
- as the Destination.) SuprDupr then prompts you to insert the
- Destination drive. The destination disk is then wiped clean, and
- the original files and directory structure are then copied to
- the destination disk. If you want to do another, the process
- starts over. If not, the temporary directory and the virtual
- drive are wiped out without a trace. If you are copying from
- A: to B:, or vice-versa, the process skips the virtual temporary
- drive, and the copying is done directly, without any disk changes.
- The source and destination disks need not be of the same capacity,
- but the destination drive must be spacious enough to accept
- the sources's files. If not, the process aborts. More information
- on the copying specifics can be found in the Copydisk documentation.
- Any time SuprDupr asks you to either answer a question, or install
- a disk, you can type Q to stop execution and exit the program.
-
- What you need:
-
- 1. An XT, AT, 386, or 486 computer running DOS with a hard
- drive known as C:, with enough room on the hard drive to hold
- the contents of whatever size floppy you want to duplicate.
-
- 2. A line in your config.sys file like this: LASTDRIVE=Z
- (OK, so LASTDRIVE=K is good enough, but if you change it to
- Z now, you've got it covered for the future!) The "Install"
- program will add this line for you automatically during the
- installation process.
-
- 3. Formatted floppy disks of sufficient capacity to copy to.
- If you try to copy to an un-formatted disk, SuprDupr will ask
- you if you want to format the disk. If you say "yes", it will
- attempt to format the disk to the drive's default capacity.
- This can be a bit unreliable, however, so it's usually best
- to say "No". If you attempt to copy to too small of a disk the
- copying process will be aborted.
-
- How do I start?
-
- ***WARNING: SUPRDUPR.COM MAY CAUSE DATA LOSS ON YOUR HARD
- DRIVE IF YOU ARE USING A FILE COMPRESSION STACKING OR
- SQUEEZING PROGRAM. YOU SHOULD INSTALL USING THE
- INSTAL-S COMMAND.
-
- If you are starting with a floppy disk:
-
- 1. Put the disk into the A: (or B:) drive.
- 2. Type A: (or B:, must be the same as in previous step)
- and hit enter.
- 3. Type INSTALL. (or INSTAL-S, see above) That's it!
-
- If you are starting with a compressed file: (ARC., ZIP., or
- the like.)
-
- 1. Decompress (UNARC, UNZIP, etc.) to a floppy disk.
- 2. Install as above for a floppy.
-
- If it's already on you hard drive, but not installed:
-
- 1. Copy all files to a floppy and install as above.
- (SuprDupr can be installed from a hard drive, but so
- you will have a backup copy of the program and all it's
- related files, I recommend copying everything to a
- floppy.)
-
- SuprDupr can now be run from the command line at the C:\ prompt by
- typing DUPR, or DUPRM for monochrome, or DUPRS (see above ***).
-
-
- For Windows installation:
- (This looks like a lot of steps, but if you print out this
- document, and then check off each step as you do it, it's easy!)
-
- 1. Put the disk into the A: (or B:) drive.
- 2. Type A: (or B:, must be the same as in previous step)
- and hit ENTER.
- 3. Type INSTALLW and hit enter.
- 4. Start Windows and go to the "Program Manager" Window.
- 5. Double Click on the icon of the program group where you
- want SuprDupr to be located.
- 6. Click on Program Manager "File".
- 7. Click on "New", and the "New Program Object" window
- appears.
- 8. Click on "Program Item"
- 9. Click on "OK", and the "Program Item Properties"
- window appears.
- 10. Click on "Browse". and the Browse" menu appears.
- 11. Scroll through the .pif files until you find Suprdupr.pif,
- (or Sprdprns.pif, see above ***) and click on it.
- 12. Click on "OK" and the Program Item Properties" window
- will reappear.
- 13. Click on "Change Icon" and the "Change Icon" window
- appears.
- 14. Click on "OK".
- 15. Click on "Browse" and the "Browse" window appears.
- 16. Scroll through the listed files and click on "Suprdupr.ico".
- 17. Click on "OK" and the "Change Icon" window reappears.
- 18. Click on "OK", and the "Program Item Properties" window
- reappears.
- 19. Click on "OK". ALL DONE!!
-
- Now from within Windows you can run SuprDupr by double
- clicking on its icon.
-
-
- If SuprDupr doesn't display well on your monochrome monitor:
-
- 1. Type DUPRM to run the program in monochrome mode.
- This will change the display to monochrome.
-
- About disk labels:
-
- Disk labels will be transferred from the Source disk to the
- Destination disk only when they are in different drives. To make
- multiple dupes including the label, copy to a working disk in your
- other drive, and then copy back from the working disk to your
- Destination disks.
-
- Credit where it's due:
-
- SuprDupr functions as well as it does in part to the excellent
- utilities that it calls during its operation. Copydisk was written
- by Gordon Harris of 3349 Humboldt Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55408,
- and RM was written by Mark Adler at P.O. Box 60998, Pasadena, CA
- 91116. The complete documentation for RM.com and C source code, and
- the complete documentation and C source code for Copydisk.exe have
- been included with SuprDupr, should you wish to know more about
- these fine utilities, or use them by themselves from the command
- line. Don't play around with RM.com, however, until you have read
- the documentation thoroughly as RM.com is a very powerful utility
- and mis-used could do major erasing of your files, including system
- and hidden files.
-
-
- Legal stuff:
- SuprDupr in all of its versions and variations, is provided
- as is, without any warrantee, expressed or implied, including but

- loss of profit, or any other damages, including but not limited to
- special, incidental, consequential, or any other damages. You can
- freely distribute the unregistered version of SuprDupr and its
- related files, provided it is distributed in an unmodified form,
- and it it is distributed with all of the files listed in the
- packing list below. The registered version of SuprDupr may not be
- distributed. Feel free to upload the unregistered SuprDupr to the
